What is Farm Day Every Day?

Farm Day Every Day is a year-round initiative that connects communities to farms. Expanding our one-day annual Farm Day events in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, this new initiative provides year-round community outreach and educational opportunities to deepen the public’s understanding of our local food systems.

Through cost-free food literacy education, Farm Day Every Day tours cultivate an understanding of and appreciation for the hands and lands that feed us. Our goal is to strengthen connections between farms and the communities they feed.

Each of our Farm to Food Lab students got hands-on with vermicompost, meeting our red wigglers and discovering the magic of worm castings (aka worm poop). They learned how this nutrient-rich soil boosts plant growth and why healthy soil is the foundation of our entire food system. The coolest part? Realizing that food scraps don’t have to be waste; they can be transformed into something that gives life right back to the earth. Growing minds, nurturing soil, and closing the loop. 🪱❤️🪱

Healthy soil = healthy food 🍓 BUT! Not all soil is the same and understanding the difference can completely change how and what you grow. From sandy loam to clay loam, each soil type holds water and nutrients differently, which directly impacts plant growth. In this reel, we break down the basics of loam, how to identify it using a simple ribbon test, and why soil composition matters in agriculture. These are just a few reflections from the incredible middle and high school students we’ve had the privilege of working with throughout the STEM CPA Program. Our goal? To reach thousands of students across Ventura and Santa Barbara counties and open the door to the many paths that exist within agriculture 🌱 Because ag isn’t just one thing… it’s science, innovation, technology, creativity, sustainability, and so much more. Come visit Petty Ranch on Ventura County Farm Day and learn all about SEEAG’s youth programs! Join us for a short tour of our 3rd grade Farm Lab Program! Tour times: 10:00AM, 11:00AM, 12:00PM, 1:00PM Petty Ranch is the hub of Ventura County Farm Day and will be hosting 10+ local community organizations. Plant your free seedling! We will have 5,000 seedlings to share! 🌱

Nearly 100 students from Santa Maria FFA’s Agriculture Science & Horticulture Pathways recently participated in the STEM Career Pathways in Agriculture program 🌱✨ During the program, students explored: 🌾 Career Discovery – learning about diverse ag careers from agronomy to ag-tech 🚜 Industry Tours – visiting local leaders like Plantel Nurseries, Bonipak Produce, and Betteravia Farms 🔬 STEM Labs – exploring hydroponics + soil science Let’s hear from students and their experiences throughout the STEM Program: Freshman, Yuleidi Lopez Lopez stated, “Going to the Plantel trip taught me how the process of growing vegetable crops works behind the scenes, showing that food doesn’t just come from the grocery stores and there are many people working hard to properly grow our crops.” Senior, Adeline Cruz shared, “The SEEAG tour was an eye-opening experience that introduced me to the wide range of opportunities within the agricultural industry. Observing the level of precision and the use of advanced technology such as the use of AI in equipment, showed me how the industry continues to grow and evolve.” From building hydroponic systems and testing soil health to seeing AI-powered farming equipment in action, students gained insight into the future of agriculture and their place in it 💡 This program is all about opening doors, building confidence, and showing students what’s possible in agriculture 🌿

A special teaching moment from our Santa Barbara County Educators! Today, they’re taking us through one of the most loved activities at Farm Lab: planting a seedling and stepping into the role of a plant parent! From tiny roots to thriving mature plants, this hands on experience helps students connect with where their food comes from and what it takes to make it grow. Did you know SEEAG offers FREE 3rd grade programming to Santa Barbara County schools at Alan Hancock College? We still have a few spots available!
