Farm Day Every Day Recap at Brokaw Nursery

Group 1 of participants hearing from Consuelo of Brokaw Nursery

SEEAG hosted the February Farm Day Every Day tour at Brokaw Nursery, where community members had the opportunity to step behind the scenes and experience firsthand how plants are grown, nurtured, and prepared for farms across California and beyond.

Families, educators, and agriculture enthusiasts gathered to learn more about the essential role that Brokaw Nursery plays in agriculture and the food system. While many people are familiar with harvesting fruits and vegetables, this tour highlighted the critical early stages of agriculture, long before crops ever reach the field.

Over 50 people joined us to explore the greenhouse spaces and propagation areas, gaining insight into how rootstocks are developed, how grafting works, and why selecting the right plant varieties is so important for long-term success. The Brokaw Nursery team shared their expertise on plant health, soil management, irrigation practices, and the science behind cultivating strong, resilient trees. We ended off the morning with homemade guacamole made directly from avocados grown at Brokaw Nursery’s ranch. It was a unique opportunity to see the precision, innovation, and care that go into producing high-quality nursery stock.

As a leader in avocado and specialty tree production, Brokaw Nursery plays a significant role in supporting growers throughout California and internationally. Seeing this process up close gave attendees a deeper appreciation for the dedication and technical knowledge required to grow the plants that ultimately help feed our communities. Tours like this reflect SEEAG’s commitment to connecting people of all ages to the story of agriculture, from seed to harvest. By opening the doors to places like Brokaw Nursery, we help bridge the gap between consumers and the agricultural professionals who work tirelessly behind the scenes.

Thank You so much to Brokaw Nursery and their entire team for graciously hosting this educational experience and welcoming the community onto the farm. Their willingness to share their time, knowledge, passion, and facilities made this tour both informative, educational, and inspiring. In addition, thank you to everyone who joined us for this special tour. We look forward to continuing to grow connections within our community and offering more opportunities to learn directly from the experts who make agriculture thrive.
