FDED Tour Recap at Allan Hancock College Vineyard & Farm
Attendees walking through the vineyard at Allan Hancock College
SEEAG started the year on a high note with a memorable Farm Day Every Day tour at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria bringing students and community members together for an immersive, hands-on experience at the collegeβs Farm and Vineyard.
Designed to connect community members with the realities of agriculture, the tour offered an up-close look at how food is grown, the people behind the process, and the many opportunities within the agricultural industry.
Attendees explored the working farm and student vineyard while engaging with SEEAG educators and Allan Hancock College staff who shared insights into production, land stewardship, and sustainable farming practices. From soil and plant health to harvesting and food systems, the tour sparked curiosity and encouraged thoughtful questions, helping students better understand how agriculture intersects with science, and environmental responsibility.
Beyond the field experience, the tour emphasized the wide range of career pathways connected to agriculture, from hands-on farming and research to education, technology, and environmental careers. By seeing these pathways in action at Allan Hancock College, students gained valuable perspective on how education and agriculture work hand in hand to support local communities and the broader food system, especially in the Santa Maria Valley.
The Farm Day Every Day tour also showcased the importance of local partnerships and the role community colleges play in agricultural education. Allan Hancock Collegeβs Farm and Vineyard serve as a living classroom, providing real-world learning opportunities that prepare students for future careers while supporting sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
SEEAG is grateful to Allan Hancock College for hosting this impactful tour and to the educators, partners, and participants who made the day such a success. Experiences like Farm Day Every Day are central to SEEAGβs mission to educate, inspire, and connect students to agriculture. We look forward to continuing these meaningful tours throughout the year and welcoming more communities into the field.
