Farm Day Every Day Recap at Tutti Frutti Farms

Group 1 of participants hearing from Consuelo of Brokaw Nursery

On Saturday, March 28th, we welcomed guests to another memorable Farm Day Every Day tour, featuring two incredible Santa Barbara County farms: Tutti Frutti Farms and Rancho La ViΓ±a. It was a beautiful morning filled with learning, connection, and hands-on experiences that brought our local food system to life.

We began the day with an introduction to SEEAG, where guests learned more about our mission to connect students and families to the hands and lands that feed us. We also shared an overview of our education programs and the impact they have across the Central Coast, helping foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for agriculture.

From there, we heard from the team at Tutti Frutti Farms, who shared their commitment to growing organic produce and their approach to sustainable farming. Guests gained insight into what it takes to maintain organic practices, from soil health to crop management, and how these efforts result in fresh, high-quality produce for the community.

We were also joined by Rancho La ViΓ±a, who introduced guests to their walnut operation and the history behind their farm. Attendees learned about the lifecycle of walnut trees, the care that goes into maintaining a healthy orchard, and the seasonal work involved in bringing walnuts from tree to table.

Following the introduction, guests toured the walnut orchard, walking among the trees while learning more about their growth and production. One of the highlights of the morning was the opportunity to sample fresh walnuts right at the sourceβ€”an experience that truly showcased the value of knowing where your food comes from.

After the orchard tour, guests gathered for a fun raffle, where we gave away Farm Day merchandise, including shirts and hats, as well as Tutti Frutti Farms hats. It was a great moment of community and excitement before continuing on to the next part of the tour.

We then made our way to the hoop houses at Tutti Frutti Farms for a hands-on u-pick experience. Guests had the chance to harvest their own organic peas, connecting directly with the crops and the work that goes into growing them. Along the way, participants learned about agricultural labor, the specific practices involved in organic pea production, and the broader importance of supporting local farms and farmers.

From learning about organic farming methods to hearing firsthand stories from growers and getting hands-on in the fields, the day offered a meaningful and immersive look into Ventura County agriculture. Experiences like these help bridge the gap between consumers and producers, fostering a deeper appreciation for the people and processes behind our food.

Thank you to everyone who joined usβ€”we look forward to seeing you at our next Farm Day Every Day tour!
