On Saturday, May 31st, over 50 people gathered at Rincon Farms for the Farm Day Every Day tour! Located at the β€œQueen of the Coast”, Rincon Farms opened its doors and gave guests an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the journey avocados take from tree to tableβ€”and what a journey it is!

Behind the Scenes: Avocados on the Move

The tour kicked off with a guided walk through Rincon’s state-of-the-art packing house. This is where the magic of distribution begins. Guests had the rare opportunity to see how freshly picked avocados are sorted by size, and carefully packed for shipping. Watching the skilled workers and machinery in action was an awesome thing to experience. Many visitors commented on how much care and precision goes into preparing avocados for consumersβ€”something most of us never see.

Strolling Through the Orchard

Next, the group made their way into the avocado orchards, where the trees were heavy with delicious avocados. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Carpinteria’s hills, we learned about the full life cycle of an avocado. From planting young trees and managing irrigation to identifying ripeness and harvesting, every step is rooted in sustainability and stewardship of the land.

Sean from Rincon Farms was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate. He shared insights on the challenges and rewards of farming, including how climate, pests, and water resources impact production. Kids especially loved spotting various things on their scavenger hunt and learning that it takes about five years for a tree to start producing fruit!

Tasting the Harvest

After exploring the farm we enjoyed tasting fresh, homemade guacamole coming directly from Rincon Farms β€” a true farm to table experience. The guac was paired with sweet, juicy Ojai Pixie tangerines. It was a simple but delicious way to celebrate the fruits of the region. It truly captured the spirit of what Farm Day Every Day is all about: community, connection, and celebration of our local food system.

Looking Ahead

We’re so grateful to Rincon Farms for their warm hospitality and commitment to educating the public about agriculture. Their dedication to quality and community engagement is truly inspiring. And to all the guests who joined usβ€”thank you for being part of this special day!
