Joyful June Volunteer Event at Petty Ranch
A Huge Thank You to Our June Volunteers.
The Kiwanis Aktion Club and a wonderful group of community volunteers joined forces to clean up and beautify Petty Ranch. Their hard work successfully wrapped up our 2025β2026 third-grade programs and perfectly prepped the site for our upcoming Summer school programs. This summer, we are thrilled to host at Petty Ranch students from Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Ventura County, alongside summer school students from the Oxnard and Fillmore School Districts.
What We Accomplished Together
Thanks to our volunteers' incredible energy, we tackled several key projects in just a couple of hours:
Fresh Mulch & Weeding: We made a fantastic effort re-mulching our introduction area. A special shout-out goes to Andy Mack, his friends with the Aktion Club, and our high school volunteer, Aurora Arrellano, for leading the charge on this massive weeding and mulching task!
Keeping Things Hydrated: Another group from the Aktion Club helped water our garden boxes and flower beds. Because our water at Petty Ranch comes from two large watering tanks, this required serious strength to carry the water and plenty of patience to fill the cans.
Worm Care: Volunteers also helped feed and water our large vermicompost system. Our worms are officially well-cared for and very happy!
Because of these efforts, we are incredibly proud to welcome our incoming summer students to an even more beautiful and thriving Farm Lab learning space.
Upcoming Volunteer Events
Exciting news! Our next volunteer day is scheduled for a return to our Southbank Learning Farm in Oxnard the morning of July 16th.
The Southbank Learning Farm is SEEAGβs new three-acre education and agriculture site in Oxnard where hands-on farming, workforce development, and mentorship opportunities will support justice-involved youth. The farm is located on County-owned land behind the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Facilities in Oxnard. The site was previously home to the Senior Nutrition Farm and will now be revitalized as a SEEAG educational and workforce development farm.
We envision the farm producing fresh, locally grown food to provide needed resources to keep our SEEAG programs strong and as food resources for the community. At this volunteer event, our clean up and care will set in motion the rejuvenation of this land that is waiting to once again become a richly productive farm. Our human care is needed to make this happen.
