Volunteer Day Recap at SEEAG’s Farm to Food Lab
Volunteers at SEEAG’s monthly volunteer day
Last Thursday was one for the books—we hosted a fantastic volunteer day at Petty Ranch, and we’re still smiling from the incredible turnout and the tremendous impact made. We want to extend a big thank you to the enthusiastic team from Bank of America and all the wonderful volunteers who generously gave their time, energy, and heart to support our work.
With everyone’s help, we accomplished an impressive amount in just a few hours. Volunteers hand-weeded the entire entry area and spread a significant amount of mulch—tasks that usually take our staff multiple full workdays to complete. It was a true display of teamwork and dedication, and we are genuinely grateful for each person who contributed to this effort.
Everyone involved worked side by side, chatting, laughing, and sharing a collective sense of purpose. It was great to see the kids so engaged—not only helping with the weeding but also carrying buckets of grass clippings to our compost pile and feeding the worms in our vermicompost bin. These small yet significant tasks help foster a sense of environmental responsibility and curiosity in our youngest volunteers.
This kind of community effort is what makes our work possible. The Petty Ranch site, generously made available to us by Farmer Chris Sayer, is a cornerstone of our third-grade education program, Farm to Food Lab. Thanks to the support of our volunteers, we’re able to keep the site safe, welcoming, and thriving for the thousands of students and visitors we serve each year.
Events like this remind us how powerful community involvement can be. Every hour volunteered and every weed pulled helps us further our mission of providing hands-on environmental education and building stronger connections between our community and agriculture.
If you missed this event, don’t worry—there are more opportunities ahead! We’re always looking for helping hands to support our programs and maintain our beautiful outdoor spaces. Sign up through our Google Form to be notified about upcoming volunteer days and ways you can get involved.
To everyone who joined us: thank you. Your time and hard work made a difference, and we can’t wait to welcome you back soon.
