Introducing the Fields of Innovation in Agriculture Research Competition
Students from Oxnard High School testing soil moisture and electrical conductivity
Now Open for Ventura County High School Students
At SEEAG, we are committed to preparing the next generation of agricultural leaders through hands-on, STEM-focused education. Through our STEM Career Pathways in Agriculture Program, high school students explore the science, technology, engineering, and math that power Californiaβs food systemsβfrom soil health and water management to renewable energy and crop innovation. Our lessons, labs, and field trips introduce students to diverse agricultural careers while connecting them directly with local industry professionals.
Building on this work, we are excited to announce the launch of a brand-new opportunity for high school students in Ventura County: the Fields of Innovation in Agriculture Research Competition, opening March 9.
A New STEM Research Opportunity for High School Students
The Fields of Innovation in Agriculture Research Competition is a six-week, fully online research challenge designed for 10thβ12th grade students who are curious about agriculture, STEM, and real-world problem solving. Hosted on Canvas, the competition provides students with an authentic, project-based learning experience they can complete at their own pace, with optional support along the way.
This yearβs competition theme is Water in Agriculture, highlighting one of the most pressing challenges facing Californiaβs agricultural industry. Students will explore topics such as water conservation, emerging technologies, irrigation innovation, and sustainable water management practices shaping the future of agriculture.
Throughout the competition, students will:
Research agricultural water challenges
Develop innovative solutions
Explore agriculture and STEM-related career pathways
Create a research abstract and poster presentation
Final Showcase at CSU Channel Islands
The competition culminates in an in-person poster showcase on May 2 at CSU Channel Islands. All participating students will be invited to attend and present their work on a college campus, an exciting opportunity to step into a higher education setting and share their ideas with a broader audience.
At the final event, students will:
Present their research posters to peers, educators, family, and friends
Network with local agricultural professionals serving as judges
Connect with students from high schools across Ventura County
Gain confidence presenting their ideas in a professional setting
Select students will also be recognized with scholarship awards and potential internship opportunities.
