A Heartwarming Volunteer Day at Our Whole Harvest Campaign Farm!
Volunteers at the farm
On November 11th, an amazing group of volunteers joined SEEAG staff at the very special farm we’re working hard to secure through our Whole Harvest Campaign. Many in our community will remember this property as the former Senior Nutrition Farm — a place once bustling with activity, learning, and growth. After being left untended for nearly a year, the land has needed significant care, attention, and a whole lot of heart.
Over the past several months, SEEAG has been working diligently to revive the space. Thanks to the consistent effort of staff and volunteers, many of the existing trees and perennial plants have been kept alive through regular watering and slow, steady nurturing. This work is essential as we move closer to the goal of preserving the farm as a future education site and community resource.
A Day of Hard Work — and Big Wins
Our November volunteer day brought together a dedicated team ready to roll up their sleeves. From the moment they arrived, volunteers jumped right into supporting the transformation of the property. By the end of the day, the collective impact was clear:
Extensive weeding and general cleanup across multiple areas of the farm
Reorganizing potted dragon fruit and aloe plants, giving them space to breathe and grow
Pruning and tidying up the dragon fruit vines along the trellises, helping guide healthier future growth
Trimming overgrown lavender and rosemary bushes, restoring the beauty and balance of the landscape
All of this progress happened just in time — the first drops of welcome rain arrived as we were wrapping up. That rain will give the plants a boost of new growth, but it also means plenty of fresh weeds will spring up soon. We’ll be relying on volunteers more than ever in the coming weeks to help us stay ahead of them and continue revitalizing the space.
Why This Work Matters
Every hour donated by volunteers directly strengthens our ability to maintain the farm and move closer to securing it for good. This property represents so much more than land — it’s a future hub for SEEAG’s education programs, community events, and hands-on learning opportunities for children and families.
As we envision a place where students can learn about agriculture, nutrition, and sustainability, our volunteers are helping lay the literal foundation. Their commitment ensures that the farm continues to grow, heal, and evolve as we prepare it for the next chapter.
