Volunteers to the Rescue After the February Storms
Only a Team Could Move Our Shade Structure Back Into Place
Staff & Volunteers Restore Petty Ranch.
The early February storms delivered much-needed rain but came with fierce winds—and even tornadoes in some areas. These powerful forces of nature easily toppled one of our heavy wooden shade structures and a small supply shed at Petty Ranch.
Storms don’t follow schedules, of course. They hit hard on the Thursday we had planned for our monthly volunteer day, first with steady rains in the morning followed by high winds in the afternoon. Our SEEAG team rose to the challenge: late Wednesday afternoon, we quickly shifted the event to Monday morning, ensuring everything would be ready for our Tuesday school program.
Several staff members arrived early Monday morning, joined by Farmer Chris and dedicated volunteers who had originally signed up for Thursday. Together, they lifted and moved the shade structure back into position, up-righted the shed, and restored the program supplies in it.
Fig Tree Pruning.
After these tasks were completed, there was still time for one more. Farmer Chris demonstrated the proper way to prune the fig trees he has planted on the property. The team of staff and volunteers jumped in immediately, giving several fig trees a thorough, expert “haircut” that has them perfectly primed for spring growth.
