On Friday, January 16th, Coal Oil Point Reserve (COPR) staff will show us some of the plant communities, plants that make up these communities, and birds at this unique coastal reserve in western Goleta. The 170-acre Coal Oil Point Reserve is part of the University of California’s Natural Reserve System. COPR protects a wide variety of habitats, including: beach shoreline, coastal dunes, a tidal estuary, seasonal freshwater wetlands, coastal sage scrub, grassland, and more. Thousands of migratory birds visit, and the area is home to some rare species, including the western snowy plover. Find out what makes this area so special.
