Marilyn Peake Joins SEEAG Board

We're excited to announce that Marilyn Peake, community outreach officer at Ventura County Credit Union, has joined SEEAG's board of directors.

"Marilyn brings her passion for education to our board," says Mary Maranville, SEEAG's founder and CEO. "She is deeply involved in the community and we look forward to her input and insight."

Before joining Ventura County Credit Union, Peake worked for CSU Channel Islands and local non-profit organizations such as Family Service Agency of Santa Barbara and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County.

"My parents were farmworkers when I was a child. At a young age, I saw how hard they worked to reach their dreams," says Peake, who was born and raised in Ventura County. "I like that SEEAG is inspiring children throughout Ventura and Los Angeles Counties to dream big, to be in touch with nature and their food, while learning to eat healthy."

Peake also serves on the board of the Mixteco Indigenous Community Organizing Project (MICOP) and the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce. In 2017, the Pacific Coast Business Times presented Peake the Latino Business Award in Finance and Banking as a recognition for her community involvement.

SEEAG Seeks Sponsors for 8th Annual Ag Day Golf Tournament, June 25

Camarillo, Calif. (March, 12, 2018)--Sponsors are being sought for the 8th Annual Ag Day Golf Tournament, Monday, June 25 at the Spanish Hills Country Club in Camarillo.

Money raised by the tournament helps support Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture’s (SEEAG), a nonprofit organization that provides cost-free agricultural education programs for children in Ventura and Los Angeles counties. SEEAG educates kids about the farm origins of their food from field to fork.

Since its inception, SEEAG has enabled more than 20,000 students to learn where their food comes from through field trips to SEEAG's Farm Lab at Petty Ranch in Saticoy and teacher-approved classroom curriculum.

“The money we raise goes a long way to reach students in elementary through middle school. The surprise and wonder on their faces when these kids learn what it takes to grow a single lemon is priceless,” says Mary Maranville, founder and CEO of SEEAG. "We never charge a school or child to participate and we provide free transportation to our Farm Lab."

Sponsorship levels start at $250 (tee sponsor). The cost for individual players is $350 and includes green fees and cart, 18 holes of golf, lunch, cocktail reception, prizes and an awards dinner. In addition, tasty farm-fresh snacks and drinks at different holes will be prepared and served throughout the day. Signup as a foursome for $1,500 and receive all of the above plus recognition at "hole-in-one" holes and company logo in event program and on banners.

Raffle items are also needed.

SEEAG Receives $7,500 Grant From Reiter Affiliated Companies

Ventura, Calif. (February 14, 2018) -- Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG), a nonprofit organization that helps young students understand and appreciate the origins of their food, received a $7,500 grant from Reiter Affiliated Companies (RAC). The funds will help SEEAG expand its education efforts through its Journey of Our Food agricultural and nutrition school programs. Since its inception in 2008, SEEAG has provided free classroom and onsite farm field trips to over 20,000 students.

 RAC, headquartered in Oxnard, has operations worldwide with affiliates in the U.S., Mexico, Europe and Africa, is the largest fresh, multi-berry producer in the world and the leading supplier of fresh strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries in North America.

 "RAC has been a wonderful SEEAG partner for several years," says Mary Maranville, SEEAG CEO. “It's a perfect match. RAC grows row crops and we use row crops to teach students about where their food comes from. The recent Thomas Fire cemented the relationship event further." SEEAG volunteers recently batched together about 6,000 donated gift cards and helped distribute them to farmworkers affected by the fire.

 "It's relationships like these, people helping people, that make you appreciate how much good there is in our community and the importance of our agricultural neighbors," says Maranville.
